When you think of Akita, Kinman naturally comes to mind. This beloved local specialty has maintained the same cherished flavor for nearly 70 years. It’s a perfect choice as a souvenir, a thoughtful gift for family gatherings, or simply a delightful treat for yourself. Kinman is a type of castella manju, known for its elegant, understated sweetness. Each piece is bite-sized and easy to enjoy, featuring the natural sweetness of the ingredients and a soft, fluffy texture. Shaped like an imagawayaki, and the gently sweet dough made with honey and eggs. And they filled it with high-quality white bean paste containing eggs. It is just the right size, about 5 cm in diameter, making it the perfect accompaniment to tea or coffee.

Kinman History

kinman packed type

Kinman originated in 1953 on a shopping street called Kinza-gai in front of Akita Station, where Ouchi Masami began selling manju outside his restaurant. A confectionery machine was installed in the shop, allowing customers to watch the manju being made and enjoy them fresh and hot. This hands-on experience made the shop especially popular with children and locals. Nearly 70 years later, Kinman continues to be made with the same flavor and heartfelt dedication.
